Humanoid and Wheeled Robots Shaping the Future of Technology

Quote As Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced during the shareholders’ meeting on May 16th, Tesla is developing a humanoid robot named “Optimus,” which will be capable of running on Tesla’s advanced driver-assistance system software and computer. Musk believes that the majority of Tesla’s long-term value will eventually come from Optimus.

“It is certain that in the future, everyone will have a humanoid robot, and this market will surpass the demand for electric cars, potentially reaching a billion-dollar scale,” Musk stated.

Tesla first showcased the Optimus humanoid robot during the AI Day event in September last year, with the expectation of launching it in the market by 2023. Musk also mentioned that the price of this robot may eventually be below $20,000, and they anticipate mass production of millions of units.

Optimus is designed to perform repetitive labor tasks, and Musk even mentioned the possibility of downloading human brain memory into the robot in the future.

In a recent video release, Tesla demonstrated the latest progress of Optimus. The video showcased five humanoid robots capable of tasks like object picking, and they have been deployed in Tesla’s factories to perform simple assignments.

Furthermore, compared to its previous appearance, Optimus has shown improvements in areas such as motor torque, force control, exploration, and environment memorization. Its walking posture is also more natural.

Musk stated that Tesla is currently the company with the most advanced real-world artificial intelligence. To achieve this, Tesla has been working on integrating the underlying modules of their Full Self-Driving (FSD) software system with the humanoid robot.

Musk also mentioned that a significant number of Tesla electric vehicles can already observe and understand the surrounding world, making decisions based on the collected information. Leveraging Tesla’s advancements in computer vision technology, they aim to further deploy humanoid robots.

During the shareholders’ meeting, Musk was asked whether he would resign as the CEO of Tesla. He denied the possibility, stating that he intends to lead Tesla towards general artificial intelligence (AGI). “I believe Tesla will play an important role in AI and AGI under effective regulation. To accomplish this vision, I need to oversee and ensure its successful realization,” he expressed.

Earlier this year, Musk registered a new company called X.AI Corp, with the aim of developing a large-scale model product called TruthGPT, to catch up with Google and Microsoft’s rapid advancements in artificial intelligence. He described TruthGPT as an AI that seeks to understand the essence of the universe and pursue truth.

As of now, the progress of TruthGPT has not been disclosed, and Musk is actively seeking top scientists in the field of artificial intelligence. One of the potential additions to the team could be Igor Babuschkin, a former researcher from DeepMind’s AI department.

Tesla’s stock price has seen a cumulative rise of over 35% this year. However, in the last three months, the company’s stock price has declined by nearly 18%. This decline can be partly attributed to investor concerns regarding Musk’s involvement in activities such as Twitter, which may distract him from Tesla’s operations.

Inevitably, the number of robots will surpass that of cars, but it may not necessarily be humanoid robots. Instead, it is more likely to be wheeled robots with mechanical arms. Let’s analyze the advantages of humanoid robots and wheeled robots from the perspectives of energy efficiency and safety, with a focus on the example of Reeman Delivery Robots.

Compared to humanoid robots, wheeled robots, like Reeman Delivery Robots, have notable advantages in terms of energy efficiency and safety. Let’s explore these aspects further.

Firstly, from an energy efficiency standpoint, wheeled robots typically use batteries as their energy source. Due to their simple structure and low energy consumption of mechanical components, wheeled robots are more energy-efficient compared to humanoid robots. On the other hand, humanoid robots require complex structures and motion systems, resulting in higher energy consumption. Therefore, when it comes to performing long-duration and long-distance delivery tasks, wheeled robots can utilize energy more efficiently, extending their operating time and range.

Secondly, considering safety, wheeled robots offer greater stability and controllability during movement. They usually have stable chassis and wheels, allowing them to adapt to different terrains and road conditions, while maintaining high balance. In contrast, humanoid robots are susceptible to external environmental disturbances due to their complex structure and mode of locomotion, which can increase the risk of falling or colliding. Wheeled robots are designed and controlled in a way that makes it easier to achieve safety and stability, enabling them to adapt to various working environments and reduce the occurrence of accidents.

Taking Reeman Delivery Robots as an example, they are efficient wheeled robots specifically designed for delivery and transportation tasks. They excel in their ability to swiftly and accurately deliver goods within urban environments, transporting items from warehouses or transit stations to their destinations. Compared to humanoid robots, Reeman robots can complete delivery tasks with higher speed and efficiency, reducing labor costs and delivery time, thus enhancing operational efficiency.

In summary, while humanoid robots have advantages in imitating human behavior and performing complex tasks, wheeled robots like Reeman Delivery Robots offer higher efficiency and reliability in delivery tasks, considering energy efficiency and safety. With further technological advancements, humanoid robots and wheeled robots are likely to demonstrate their respective advantages in different application scenarios, enabling diverse and efficient applications of robotics.
